AI guided shopping interface automates store calls for live inventory price matching and checkout alerts

Google is rolling out new AI shopping features across Search and the Gemini app in the United States today. The additions include conversational shopping, agentic checkout, and AI-powered calls to local stores, powered by Gemini models and the Shopping Graph. Google detailed the updates on its Shopping blog.

What's new in Search

  • AI Mode in Search now supports conversational shopping queries powered by Gemini models and the Shopping Graph. Results adapt to the query with shoppable image grids or side-by-side product comparison tables. When available, tables can highlight attributes such as ingredients, texture, and reviewer insights.
  • Agentic checkout lets users set detailed price tracking rules and receive alerts when conditions are met. With user permission and merchant eligibility, Google can complete purchases on merchant sites using Google Pay, keeping payment information within Google's payments infrastructure. The feature is starting to roll out on Search, including AI Mode, with initial participants Wayfair, Chewy, Quince, and select Shopify merchants.
  • An AI-powered calling feature can contact local stores to check availability and pricing on a user's behalf. Some product searches with "near me" may show a "Let Google Call" option in Search. After users specify needs and budget, Google places calls and provides a summary by email or text. The calling feature uses Google Duplex with a Gemini model upgrade.

What's new in the Gemini app

The Gemini app adds shopping features that surface product listings, prices, comparison tables, and places to buy within chat. Availability applies to U.S. users with consumer accounts who are 18 or older.

How it works

The updates run on Gemini models and Google's Shopping Graph, which connects product data across Google surfaces. Google says the Shopping Graph contains more than 50 billion product listings and updates 2 billion listings every hour for price and inventory changes.

Gemini models enable conversational interactions across Google products. Google introduced Gemini models in 2023 and later launched the Gemini app. The AI-powered calling feature builds on Duplex, which debuted in 2018 to automate specific business calls.

Availability

  • Features begin rolling out in the United States today.
  • Gemini app shopping features are available to U.S. consumer accounts age 18+.
  • Agentic checkout is starting to roll out on Search, including AI Mode, with eligible U.S. merchants.
  • The "Let Google Call" option will appear on some "near me" searches as the calling feature expands.
